Wikipedia

Wide-ranging encylopedia type of site. All articles are written and edited by volunteer contributors without an overseeing editor. It's generally well done and informative, and the internal links within the site are an example of the Internet at its best. But keep in mind that it may not always be accurate so it's always best to confirm with multiple sources.

WorldAtlas.com

A nice, clickable world atlas.

Project Gutenberg

Over 20,000 downloadable books that are now in the public domain.

Biography Channel

From the biography channel, most "biographies" are short paragraphs.
